President's Message

Greetings ICF Sacramento Coaches and Community!

The topic of “rest” has hit my radar quite a bit as of late, has it for you?

One of the most unlikely references came from our ICF Chapter’s Courageous Conversations Book Club discussion a couple weeks back. We are reading The Four Pivots, Reimagining Justice, Reimagining Ourselves by Shawn A. Ginwright, Phd. and one of the chapters is on Rest. During the conversation Gayle Guest-Brown introduced us all to the term Rest is Resistance a Manifesto by Tricia Hersey. Later that afternoon I found myself immersed in her story via a podcast and I learned all about Tricia and her Nap ministry. Fascinating!

The following week I was listening to one of my regular podcasts and I heard Malcolm Gladwell sharing his thoughts on rest and how he personally relaxes. Then it happened again on another podcast. What’s going on, we have important work to do, we can’t rest!

To many it is counter-intuitive but to us Coaches I think we all know that we can’t help others if we don’t first take care of ourselves. These were good reminders to me and I hope they are to you too.

What are you doing for yourself? September is a great time to take stock of things and ensure you have the habits and resources you need in place now to help get through the months ahead that are sure to be more busy.

Check out our calendar to see if one of the programs speaks to you and feel free to drop in on one of the book club sessions. Even if you haven’t read the book I’m confident you’ll get something out of it!

As always, if you have any questions or feedback for me, continue to reach out at president@icfsacramento.org, I’d love to hear from you!
