President's Message
Amy, Steve, Lisa 2023

Greetings ICF Sacramento Coaches and Community!

If you are like me you might recall that Labor Day typically marked the end of summer and we’d all head back to school just after then. Well I’m hearing school is starting now for many of our youth. Just like that we’re on to new beginnings!

Which brings me to my topic for this month. We’re about to start the recruitment process for our 2024 Board of Directors. For those who are interested in running for a Board position with the Chapter next year, I can’t say enough good things about being on it. For Robin and I it’s been about new friendships, personal and professional development, and fun!

Pictured here is our current Presidents’ Team - including myself (current President), Amy Shuman (past President) and Lisa Laughter (President-Elect). Lisa will be leading a committee that meets with prospective Board members, answers their questions, and ensures all candidates are eligible (i.e. you have to be a member of the Chapter and ICF Global).

Lisa began her coaching journey in 2014 when she lived in Washington State. She drove down to San Francisco for all of the in person training modules, first of her many adventures to Northern California which ultimately led her to move to Davis.

After settling in Davis, she joined the chapter and made herself known by volunteering in various capacities and eventually took on the role of Director of Membership. Currently Lisa works for UC Davis as the Senior Career Coach.

For additional insights on the benefits of being in a leadership role I’d encourage you to watch the replay of the August 8th Chapter Meeting. Click here and use passcode: x#2YCpbz to hear guest speaker Janet Harvey’s inspirational message.  Janet has served as an ICF Global leader, as a Director from 2009-2013, as Past President in 2012, as Chair for the ICF Foundation from 2013-2017, and more recently as Treasurer for the ICF Thought Leadership Institute in 2020-2021.

As we start to make plans for a new year (just like our students) I hope you will consider joining this energetic board! As always, if you have any questions or feedback for me, continue to reach out at president@icfsacramento.org, I’d love to hear from you!

Ignite Update

Ignite coaching engagements with Sac State’s EdD program participants concluded this summer. Here are a few comments from clients about their coaching experience:

“Coaching has increased my confidence and mindset to help me to make sound decisions without second-guessing myself. . . This confidence carried over outside of the workplace as well.”

“My coach was an excellent listener. She helped me to step out in confidence and apply for positions I may have never considered before. Coaching allowed me clarity in my next step in my career.”

“Coaching helped me figure out my goals and realign them to what I really wanted to focus on in my career. . . I overcame conflicts and resolved issues due to the help of my coach. I would recommend this to anyone struggling in their career.”

“The most significant changes have been personal. . . My coach helped me consider how I used my personal time and develop staff members' leadership in the process.”

A BIG thank you to the Ignite coaches who volunteered their time to coach a pro bono client from the Sac State EdD program, including:
