President's Message
ICW Coaches Cafe 2023

Half way through the year and we’re just getting started….

The highlight of the year so far has to be International Coaching Week (ICW). Thanks to the hard work of the team and you, our community of coaches, it was wonderful! The week started on Tuesday with a virtual panel discussion on coaching where our 4 panelists shared their real life experiences on the impact of coaching to 20 eager participants. Throughout the week we hosted 4 in person coaches cafes (one of which is pictured above), attended by 31 coaches and friends. Saturday morning we capped things off with 6 of our chapter members providing 30 1:1 laser coaching sessions to people from all over the world; Oman, England, Canada, Peru, and Serbia. Meet Local, coach Global could have been the theme!

There are plenty of things to look forward to as we enter the second half of the year. The programs team has been hard at work lining up speakers both from the extended coaching community and our own membership. In fact, we have the former ICF Global President on the agenda for August! Saying that, while I’m excited to hear from her, it's you, our local coaches, sharing what you are doing during the monthly Lunch & Learns that are really inspiring. Please reach out to the programs team if you’d like to participate.

A couple of other things I’m excited about in our third quarter is Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Advisory Committee and Book Club. If you haven’t already signed up please reach out to Maryam Ghadiri. I know she’d love to have you. There is also a call out for presenters for our inaugural Fall Conference to be held on Friday, September 15th in person. Amy Shuman is chairing this event and there is more information in this month’s newsletter to check out.

So, wherever you are in your coaching journey, “just getting started,” or “well along your way,” I hope you find that your Chapter is here to support you and provide for you.

As always if you have any questions or feedback for me, continue to reach out at president@icfsacramento.org, I’d love to hear from you!

Cultivating DEIB Dialogue through Courageous Conversations

To become Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) advocates, we must go inside to find our biases, expand our understanding and identify our own wounds before taking steps toward healing and implementing DEIB-oriented actions.

One of the great ways to start this journey is by coming together as a community to read books, share our feelings and thoughts, and learn from each other. Join our “Courageous Conversations Book Club” in which we choose and read books from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) writers, start dialogues about DEIB-related topics, and tap into our curiosity to learn more together.

This book club, co-hosted by Maryam Ghadiri and Lisa Laughter, will meet bi-weekly, starting on June 14th at 12pm. The first book is The Four Pivots by Shawn Ginwright (pictured).

Click here to register for the Courageous Conversations Book Club and contact Maryam Ghadiri, Director of DEIB, at directordei@icfsacramento.org with your questions or suggestions.

Board Member Spotlight

With the arrival of summer, many of you are heading out to fabulous vacation destinations both near and far. Our ICF Sacramento Board is no exception!  I wanted to take a moment to recognize the work of one such world-traveler, our amazing Communications Associate Director, Perrine Rambeau (pictured here with me, she’s on the right).

Perrine joined our board in January as a former Marketing & Communications professional turned coach, bringing her incredible wealth of knowledge and expertise to our chapter. If you’ve seen Perrine’s LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram posts or you’ve watched the video clips she’s shared on our YouTube channel, her impressive work speaks for itself!

I have sincerely enjoyed partnering with Perrine, who has been supporting our chapter from afar in France, and is gearing up to sail the seven seas! While Perrine is out for several weeks, I am extremely grateful for the support of our amazing chapter volunteers, namely, Hector Garcia. In Perrine's absence, Hector has graciously stepped in to help with our chapter’s social media presence. You can see Hector’s smiling face in the photo shared above Steve’s President’s Message (he’s pictured on the left!).

Please join me in wishing Perrine a bon voyage, and in cheering on Hector, who you’ll be hearing more from in the future!
