Hello Members, Coaches and Friends, welcome to December:
“The month of joy, celebration and finishing what you started” what a perfect quote for this month’s president’s message.
In late 2020, I had a conversation with Magda Mook, CEO and Executive Director of the ICF. I asked what she felt was most important in serving our Chapter members. She said, “I always look at it as three buckets that allow our members to really thrive. Those three buckets are; coach more, coach better, coach connect.” Since then “Coach more, Coach better, Coach connect” has been the unofficial mantra and guiding principles to how your wonderful, 2021 volunteer board approached their work and their commitment to you, our members.
As we close out the year 2021 and finish what we started our Chapter has many things to celebrate. In service to our members our volunteers have done amazing things to support our member coaches. I would like to share with you a just a few things our Chapter has been able to accomplish this year, and give thanks and gratitude to the volunteers that made it happen.
The First 100 Hours:
Spearheaded by your Director of Membership, Kim Nicol, we started a new program; The First 100 Hours. The purpose of this program was to support new coaches in obtaining their first 100 coaching hours so they can attain their ACC coaching credential. (Coach more, Coach better) Kim personally ran two versions of this program. First, a series of three sessions in April and then a single session supported by 7 instructional videos in July. The result of Kim’s efforts were 169 global coaches registered, new memberships and coaches successfully reaching their ACC credential with confidence. Students of coaching programs, local and global, are hearing about the program and Kim has added sustainability to the program by adding on-demand asynchronous learning.
Ignite:
Spearheaded by our amazing volunteer member Tracy Kreiss and supported by Donna Justice, our inaugural Ignite Program (pro bono coaching for social impact) is celebrating the impact of our six-month coaching engagements. Read about our projects here.
Coach Experiences
Hear snippets from some of the coaches’ experiences here Ignite Promo.

Impact Metrics:
75% of clients made significant positive change in their personal development with the remaining 25% making at least minor changes.
70% felt they made progress towards their organizational metrics.
100% of clients agreed that coaching contributed to their success.

Credentialing:
Offered by the wise Coleen Chandler, the Chapter supported coaches with three email campaigns this year to inform members about her availability as Director of Credentialing; to be at their service and to remind coaches of the need to stay abreast of their credential requirements ahead of time. Coleen also gave two credentialing classes with over 60 participants. Coleen answered numerous questions from participants during engaging and lively discussions. She also reached out to members whose credentials were expiring on December 31, 2020 to ensure they were supported in maintaining their credential. The feedback has been incredible! Coleen seamlessly removes the ambiguity of the credentialing process and supports our coaches in taking the next steps to securing or renewing their credentials. (Coach better, Coach connect)
Programs:
Our committed programs team, Director of Programs, Susan Keeley and Associate Director of Programs Kathleen Mitchell thoughtfully, planned and provided our members 48 thought-provoking and engaging programs this year including, Lunch & Learns, General Chapter meetings and Core Competency events. (Coach more, Coach better, Coach connect)
International Coaching Week:
(ICW) Spearheaded by Katie Kanowsky, Director of Special Events and 25 credentialed chapter volunteer coaches, our chapter held 3 events for International Coaching Week were numerous educators, human resource managers, and talent development specialists experienced coaching for the first time. Our event attracted participants from 20 countries; including India, Trinidad & Tobago, Malaysia, Lebanon, Greece and Turkey. (Coach more, Coach connect)
Communications and Social Media:
Our Director of Marketing Donna Justice, brought her incredible expertise to the chapter and created a strategic marketing plan to guide our communications on social, increase membership outreach, and promote special events and programs. Donna has also supported the excellent work of Director of Communications Jason Quintero and Associate Director of Communications Malea Heim in raising the bar in our social media and digital presence. This team increased our overall social media footprint by an incredible 28%! (Coach connect)
Strategic Alliances:
The Strategic Partnerships Team, President-Elect Amy Shuman and Director of Strategic Partnerships Steve Matthews have negotiated several partnerships with UC Davis, Science2Wellbeing and ACE that help support our members!
Administration:
None of the above accomplishments would have been possible without the consistent support of our Director of Administration, Robin Mathews, our Director of Finance, Colleen Richter and our Past President Melna Jones. Their support has been invaluable in maintaining the healthy finances and administrative structure of the Chapter.
As we close out 2021 and celebrate our endings and new beginnings, I would like to thank the 2021 ICF Sacramento Board for all their hard work and dedication. I would also like to welcome the new President Amy Shuman and the incredible board members for 2022! They will do amazing things! As I close my Presidency, I would like to thank all of you for your support over this past year and encourage you to bring love and service into the Chapter and into your coaching.
Here is a poem that embodies coaching for me: I Will Not Die An Unlived Life
I will not die an unlived life.
I will not live in fear
of falling or catching fire.
I choose to inhabit my days,
to allow my living to open me,
to make me less afraid,
more accessible,
to loosen my heart
until it becomes a wing,
a torch, a promise.
I choose to risk my significance;
to live so that which came to me as seed
goes to the next as blossom
and that which came to me as blossom,
goes on as fruit.
May your coaching be the spark, the seed, the blossom, the fruit for someone else.
Happy Holidays!
