Presidents Message

Hello Valued Members, Coaches Collogues and Friends,

Welcome to May!  May is known as a month of transition and change.  This new month is a reminder of new beginnings, open doors and fresh opportunities to flourish.

Since the beginning of 2021 our Chapter has been growing and flourishing.  This month is another exciting month of opportunities for us to Coach More, Coach Better and Coach Connected as a community to Connect, Contribute and Thrive.

May Kicks off International Coaching Week (ICW)!  International Coaching Week is an annual celebration of the power and impact of professional coaching.  2021's theme is "Defying Challenging Times" and runs from May 17 to 23.  As coaches, we know of the power and impact of professional coaching, especially during challenging times like these.  ICW is our opportunity to share that power with our families, friends, and neighbors.  ICF Sacramento will be celebrating ICW in several ways, and we invite you to join us in as many as possible.  The intention is to provide our membership with a place to send potential clients, friends, family, and colleagues to learn more about what coaching is and the many different styles and niches that coaching has to offer and give them a chance to try some different styles.  It’s like “speed dating” for coaches or a coaching buffet!

We will be conducting three panel discussions on Thursday, May 20th.  The first segment begins at 11am where we will discuss what coaching is and isn’t.  At 11:30 we will move the discussion into the experience of both a client and coach from their perspectives.  At 12:30 we shift to sharing internal coaching perspectives and the 3rd panel starts at 1:30 focusing on coaching as a career.  Please join us to learn or share.

International Coaching Week 2021 is here

During International Coaching Week 2021 (May 17-23, 2021), the International Coaching Federation (ICF) will invite individuals and organizations from around the world to explore “Defying Challenging Times.” Here’s what our chapter is doing to celebrate ICW 2021 with your help:

  • The Sacramento Chapter will be hosting a virtual coaching symposium on Thursday, May 20th. This event will have 3 parts covering the perspectives and FAQs of potential clients, organizations, and aspiring coaches. The intention is to ENGAGE and EDUCATE people who don’t know what coaching is all about.

  • We all know that learning about coaching is far different from the EXPERIENCE of coaching. On Friday and Saturday (21st & 22nd) we will host a public event that will enable individuals to ‘Experience Coaching’ and its benefits firsthand.

Credentialing

Are you having difficulties navigating the rules and requirements of the ICF Global credentialing process?

Do you have questions about renewing your credential or applying for a new one?

Help is on the way.

Coleen Chandler, PCC, created the new position of Credentialing Director to help ICF Sacramento chapter members with all their credentialing questions.

A typical conversation with Coleen may center on:

  • Clarifying the validity of coaching training hours for renewal or acquisition of a new credential - depending on where and when they were obtained

  • Explaining the various requirements to apply for a credential via the three credentialing paths (ACTP, ACSTH and Portfolio). Each case is different and may require adjustments.

  • Answering questions about either renewing one’s credential or going for the next credential level

  • Providing tips and explanation about the Coaching Knowledge Assessment (CKA)

  • Going over the members’ CCE units to make sure they have the proper combination of CCEUs to qualify to renew their credential

  • What to do if a credential has expired

“My mission is to make the credentialing process simpler and more enjoyable”, says Coleen. “And I love helping ICF Sacramento members grow professionally, and gain the confidence and knowledge to move forward in their credentialing journey.”

You can reach her at Director@ICFSacramento.org.
